Harlequin Macaw –
Age: –
Sex: –

Iris is a young Harlequin macaw with a big personality packed into a spunky, curious little body. She’s still learning to talk and exploring the world with that classic macaw confidence and spark. Iris is playful, expressive, and full of life, and while she has currently bonded very strongly to one person, we expect that she will form a deep bond in her future home as well. Like many macaws, she thrives on trust, routine, and patience — and with time, she will choose her person again.
Because Iris is young, she has so much ahead of her, and her future adopter should be prepared to meet her where she is. She can be silly, energetic, and opinionated, and she will need someone who understands macaw behavior and is willing to give her the time and consistency required to build a lasting relationship.
Iris does have Avian Bornavirus (ABV), and it is essential that any potential adopter has thoroughly researched this disease before considering her. ABV has no cure, and there is no way to predict how or when it may progress. Management focuses on treating symptoms and supporting quality of life, taking things one day at a time. Iris deserves a home that understands this reality, is prepared for ongoing care, and can offer stability and compassion. While her diagnosis is part of her story, it does not define who she is — Iris is still very much a joyful, loving macaw who deserves a home ready to walk this journey with her.
